Choosing the right menu for an event or corporate meeting is very important. In fact, we previously highlighted [10 Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Caterer](https://mcveigh.com/corporate-event-blog/10-questions-to-ask-before-choosing-a-caterer/). However, to truly select the best menu you need to be aware of culinary trends, and according to BizBash, the following 6 foods will be big hits in 2016.

1. **Heat and Tang
**Spicy flavors mixed with tangy accents, such as rice vinegar, yuzu, tamarind, Meyer lemon, cranberry, and kumquats.
2. **Tropical Asian
**The flavors of Malaysia and the Philippines will become more popular. Examples include the traditional Filipino street food known as pinoy barbecue or a Malaysian spice paste made from chilies, lemongrass, garlic, ginger, tamarind, coriander, and turmeric.
3. **Blends with Benefits
**Healthy ingredients become more versatile when they’re paired with flavorful herbs and spices. Examples include chia seeds mixed with citrus, chilies, and garlic.
4. **Alternative “Pulse” Proteins
**“Pulses” refers to the dried seed of a legume, such as peas, lentils, and kidney beans.
5. **Ancestral flavors
**Menus in the coming months will be packed with traditional flavors such as amaranth, mescal, and ancient herbs like thyme, peppermint, lavender, and rosemary.
6. **Culinary-infused sips
**The techniques of pickling, roasting, and caramelizing will be incorporated into cocktails, such as a roasted peanut old-fashioned, a pickled watermelon shrub cocktail, and a peach and vanilla brûlée cocktail.
